PRP Hair Restoration

Platelet rich plasma or PRP hair restoration is an innovative and nonsurgical option for hair regrowth. PRP takes advantage of your own natural growth factors that are found in specialized blood cells called platelets. The procedure involves drawing your blood, processing the specimen, and then injecting the extracted platelet rich plasma into the area of hair loss. On average, 2-3 sessions are required with a maintenance session performed biannually or annually. Hair regrowth may be seen as early as 3 months. After treatment, you can immediately resume normal activities. This is an all-natural procedure utilizing your own growth factors, therefore, side effects are minimal. Mild swelling at the injection sites may occur and resolves within 2-3 days. This treatment has been successfully used to treat androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium and alopecia areata. There is cautious optimism that even individuals with scarring hair loss such as central centrifugal scarring alopecia may benefit from PRP. This is an exciting and evolving technique in aesthetic regenerative medicine. PRP has been utilized effectively in orthopedics, sports medicine, and dentistry for over 20 years. And now, the promise of PRP is in hair restoration and skin rejuvenation.
